 | This system is dependent on the APRS amateur radio network. There
are some areas where coverage isn't perfect, especially in the more remote
areas where they tend to hold rallies. Also, like any radio
communications, it's dependent on things like terrain. Our signal won't
get out to you if there's a mountain between us and the digipeater. |
 | The radio network can get overwhelmed when it's busy. When this
happens, transmissions tend to get lost. |
 | The system is dependent on an array of gizmos on the rally car and things
can go wrong: you won't get our signal if the antenna's taken out by a tree
branch or something. |
 | In the grand scheme of things, this system is lower on the priority list
than a lot of things that go on in a rally car. If it's a choice between
fiddling with the APRS gear and fixing the car, we're going to pick the car. |
 | It's night, or I'm not at a rally. If there's no recent position
data from the car, it won't show up on the map. |
